Violin!

I've just gone back to learning the violin! I first started learning the violin in 1996. That was when i was about 4 years old (how young!). I can clearly remember the scene of me begging my dad to let my learn the violin after walking around in the music school (and staring at the violins on the shelves) he used to open. I kind of recall promising my dad that i will work hard and keep practicing the violin if he allows me to learn it. He finally agreed after my persuasion, of course.

One of my violin teacher left a deep impression in my mind. She's a rather talented musician from China. Being a musician, she really has high expectations of me and also given that i was her first violin student. After going through her lessons, i can safely say that i cry 3/5 of the time during her violin lessons. First lesson, she fiercely tells me that my posture with the violin isn't right. Then, she hits my hand for not holding the bow right and hits my left hand for ugly and inaccurate fingerings. Maybe it's just because i was young and stupid, i repeat the same mistakes over and over again during her subsequent lessons. I mean, you can't really blame me for having a quite lousy teacher before her, right? After posture and fingerings were corrected, she'd make me play songs from the suzuki book. Then, she loses her temper at me for not getting the rhythms for the songs right. It's always super stressful when i attend her lessons. Well, it isn't much of her fault anyway. I didn't practice my violin often. And strangely enough, she can tell if i did practice my violin or not.

Maybe it's because of the stress that i face from her lessons or the stress i get from my parents forcing me to perform infront of many strangers or the pressure from my siblings saying that i play the violin like i'm slaughtering chickens, i stopped learning the violin in 2002. What a pity, isn't it? 6 years of learning the violin just came to a screeching halt. Then till last year (2007) when i was packing my storeroom, i saw the violin i used to play. It came in different sizes. I saw the one i used when i was 4 years old. Super tiny! And the sizes of the violins gradually became bigger. Then, i saw the full size violin i used when i was 10! I was absolutely amazed to see the violin after 6 long years. I finally decided that maybe i should resume learning the violin after my o levels.

And i did.
I'm back to learning the violin again. I have lots of recollections to do and my current teacher has been a great help in helping me re-remember my stuff. Surprisingly, i still remember quite a number of things about the violin. Haha. I'm really pleased with myself and have been practicing the violin almost everyday (since it's the holidays). I seriously, seriously, seriously hope that i can continue learning the violin till i'm old!
